Been about a month now since I last posted, so Im posting a few updates. As of 1pm today, I am on vacation for the next 10 days, which is very exciting. Its the first vacation I have actually taken in the 1 1/2 years I have been working now. Next Wednesday I will be taking a trip up to New Jersey and New York to see friends from school. This will be my first trip to both states, so I look forward this week long trip.
Another update, two weeks ago today I got a kitten and named him Vash. This is my first cat to ever own. I have always been a dog owner and actually grew up kinda hating cats, thinking that they are all evil. That view is based off the cat my grandparents had when I was just 4 or 5 years old and that cat was the devil lol. I actually rescued Vash from a rather bad environment. Him and the other 4 kittens all are covered in fleas. I was happily surprised to find out that Vash is in perfect health after I took him to the vet to get checked up and get his starting shots as a new born.
Thats about it for now. Signing out.

Well its been a long time since I have posted so I thought I would do some updates. Two months ago, I bought the new Macbook Pro and I love it. It has been nearly two years since I last had a laptop. I dont know how I managed without one when going to work or elsewhere without it. For the past four months or so now, I have been working on a new game in using Flash 9 and ActionScript 3. The main objective of the development of this game was to make it as dynamic as possible.
To work toward achieving that goal, I have, for example, one function for creating all the lasers that can be fired. I pass around 12 different parameters to determain the color, size, speed, direction, etc for each laser created. The lasers themselves are being created just with code, so I have next to no actual assets outside the menu. I still have about another month or two before I actually finish it, but its coming along well. It has been quite a learning process throughout the whole thing. At first it was pretty slow with all the visual effects I have going on, but I kept on finding new ways to do everything to make it more efficient on the cpu. So I have seen it go from really slow, to really fast even on older machines. I’m quite proud of it so far.

After it being out for many, many months for Flash, I finally decided to start learning some ActionScript 3.0 and convert. The reason I haven’t done so before now I didn’t think it would catch on because of the complexity of it in comparison to AS2.0, but I was wrong on many levels. I also thought it would be difficult to change over with the number of changes involved, but it has actually been a whole lot easier then I thought it would be. I am enjoying working in it so far with a little bump in the road here and there while having to unlearn a few AS2.0 methods.
One thing that I am really loving about AS3.0 is its speed. It really is 10 times faster in some cases and it just shows how a new compiler and hard work from the Adobe team really pays off. Great job Adobe.
One complaint that I have right now is a few things when it comes to the actions panel. There are some glitches with AS2.0 when you are coding in Flash 9. And this is just a personal preference/opinion, I don’t think it should allow ActionScript 2.0 code to be written or give code hints while in an ActionScript 3.0 document. Besides those two complaints, Adobe has really put out a great product and I look forward to see what they do next.

Big announcement today for Adobe. Starting today you can download a beta update to the Flash 9 player that provides support for H.264 video and High Efficiency AAC audio codecs. This is great news as the H.264 codec is a great choice for video encoding and will provide a more crisp and clean video viewing experience through the Flash player.
Right now, Adobe is offering the beta for developers and consumers to test out and provide some feedback to the new enhancements offered by the h.264 codec in the Flash player. Some of the new features with this update are Multi-core support for vector rendering, Full screen mode with hardware scaling, and Flash Player cache for common platform components, such as the Flex framework.

After being gone for four weeks from work, I got cleared by the doctors to go back to work this past week. It was such a joy being back. I am kind of a work-o-holic, so being gone from work for so long was driving me crazy. I love my job and it’s such a great feeling to be back again. To make it even better, I was given an opportunity to change departments at the college I work at, so I will be getting students again that I had 8 months ago. Teaching is a real joy especially when you know that you are making a difference in ones life for the better and helping them learn all the tools they need to get a job in the field they desire.
